US-led strike hits Assad positions in Syria, US denies

US-led coalition forces have launched airstrikes against two Assad army positions in the east of the country, media from Lebanon’s Hezbollah terror group and Syria have both confirmed.

Hezbollah said the strikes took place near energy installation T2 which is near the border with Iraq and 60 miles west of the Euphrates river where the coalition is backing ground forces against ISIS.

It comes after reports earlier this week of another US airstrike against a Syrian regime military drone which flew into coalition airspace.

Syrian state news agency SANA said: “Some of our military sites between Albu Kamal and Hamimia were exposed at dawn today to aggression launched by US coalition jets.”

But a US military official denied any knowledge of the strikes.

“We have no operational reporting of a US-led coalition strike against pro-Syrian regime targets or forces,” Captain Bill Urban, a spokesman for US Central Command, told Reuters.

A Pentagon spokesman, Marine Maj. Adrian Rankine-Galloway, said: “We have no information to substantiate those reports.”

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, reported two waves of US-led missile attacks early Thursday it said targeted areas controlled by ISIS east of the Euphrates River.

It is not clear at this time whether there are any injuries following the alleged attack.

If confirmed, the attacks would be the first by the US on Syrian army positions since April, when the US, Britain and France bombed government facilities in retaliation for a chemical attack by Assad forces, which killed up to 75 people – including many children – in the town of Douma on April 7.
