The US State Department in its annual report on human rights violations referred to Judea, Samaria, the Golan Heights and Gaza as “Israel, Golan Heights, West Bank, and Gaza,” omitting the term “occupied territories.”
For the first time since 1977, when these reports were first filed, the Gaza Strip and the “West Bank” are not defined as Israeli occupied territory.
Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005 and has no administrative control over Gaza. But it maintains full security control over Judea and Samaria (West Bank).
“The lie of the occupied Palestinian territories begins to be revealed,” Israel’s Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman wrote in response to the new report on Twitter.
“They say that a lie repeated often enough becomes true, but the truth is always stronger. The State Department report is proof of that,” Liberman wrote.
